A small medieval town located on a high hill about 30 km from Florence. The village’s sixteen towers dominate the Elsa Valley. (Originally there were 72.) San Gimignano is known worldwide for its art, but there is a lot more. Fragrant flowers, narrow alleys and a beautiful palace, small handcraft and gastronomic shops give the impression that time has stopped and leave visitors with long-lasting memories.
Civil weddings take place in the 12th century town hall Il Palazzo del Podestà, which stands in the Piazza del Duomo. Ceremonies are held inSala di Dante, the council chamber, a room that is probably most famous forMaestà, an immense and beautiful affresco by Lippo Memmi.
